The attenuated point of this half high (en demi-coeur) bodice together with the pagoda sleeves reflect the 18th century design inspiration which influenced the decade. For evening wear no false lower sleeves were required, gloved serving the equivalent purpose. The back lacing reflects a revival of a most inconvenient romantic mode, but back fastenings were not unusual during the1860s." -- Label copy for Victorian Elegance, Penthouse Theatre, March 10-30, 1979.
