Linked with the Tachibana family and prized for its sweet smelling blossoms and delicious fruit, the mandarin orange (tachibana) crest is central in this piece. Underneath, note a noshi bundle, traditionally of dried abalone strips, that symbolizes opportune relationships and longevity. The tie in the middle signifies unity. -- Researched by Elisa Law, Spring 2013.
