With regard to the Holocaust, we are often reminded not to forget. Shimon Attie’s photographic practice encourages just this kind of historical memory. Making slides from archival photographs of German Jews taken in the years before World War II, he then projects these images onto the surfaces of the buildings depicted in the original pictures. He re-photographs these composite scenes to create new pictures.
