During the Whistler-Haden collaborations they made an excursion to Greenwich Park, taking grounded plates with them. The two men climbed part way up the hill and found some agreeable subjects in the form of some elderly Greenwich pensioners taking the sun. On the same day Whistler etched this plate, taking a more traditional and impersonal view of trees in a park.
