The silk patola saris represent an extremely high level of mastery of the double ikat technique. Once woven in many areas of the State of Gujarat, they are now being produced by only two families in Patan, Gujarat. The plain gold field of this sari contrasts with many of the patola saris which have patterned fields. -- Label copy for University Collection '83, June 13 to July 17, 1983.
