Fabric may be rolled diagonally or from end to end producing a striped pattern. A plaid pattern seen on some turbans is produced by retying and dyeing in opposing directions. Turbans may have up to seven colors (satrangi) which are created by repeated resists and dye baths. -- Label copy for Courtyard, Bazaar, Temple: Traditions of Textile Expression in India, Bellevue Art Museum, June 12, 1982 to July 25, 1982.
