Between 1966 and 1969, conceptual artist Dan Graham used the camera to document new suburban building campaigns in the United States. His photographs are organized to have a strong graphic presence—often highlighting repeated, rigid architectural geometries—with a social-critical edge. America’s middle-class homes appear again and again in Graham’s Homes for America project as terribly generic, without any sense of individual style, the conformist products of a post-war economic expansion.
