In his series Rich and Poor (1985), Jim Goldberg photographed both the wealthy and the destitute in their living spaces. This portrait of Countess Vivianna de Blanville was taken in a transient hotel in San Francisco. Discussing those of affluence Goldberg stated, “Wealth is about having, heritage, continuity. The rich had everything to lose.” -- Label copy for Inside-Out: Portrait Photographs from the Permanent Collection, July 2 to November 29, 2009.
