Robert Glenn Ketchum has dedicated himself to addressing landscape, natural resource management and the preservation of the wilderness during his 30-year career as a photographer. Avalanche Lake is located in Glacier National Park in the northwestern region of Montana. The name comes from the frequent avalanches that occur on the headwalls of the surrounding cirque, a steep hollow bowl caused by glacial erosion.

Ketchum has been recognized by the Audubon Society as a significant contributor to the advancement of conservation legislation through his photography. His work has been included in several publications that promote environmental awareness. -- Label copy for 150 Works of Art, October 1, 2005 to February 26, 2006.
