To make the photograph Tools, Isaac Layman used a digital back (an apparatus that enables a film camera to take digital photographs) on his large-format 4 x 5 inch camera to capture an image one digitized line at a time, each line being one pixel wide by 8,000 pixels long. Much like Hiroshi Sugimoto, Layman chose a time-consuming pro¬cess, one requiring a long exposure as well as considerable computer manipulation.

Pigmented Inkjet Print -- A pigmented inkjet print is a method of creating digital images using a non-impact inkjet computer printer that sprays tiny drops of colored printing ink onto paper. -- Label copy for Outta My Light! Picturing the Process of Photography, December 5, 2008 to May 3, 2009.
