The sari is the indigenous draped garment of India. The colors and patterns of this sari indicate that it was woven for an older woman of the upper class. Woven on a pit loom, with a dobby attachment, this textile features an unusual technique. The break between the red pallu area and the forest green field area is achieved by breaking the red warp threads and joining them with the new green warp threads. -- Label copy for University Collection '83, June 17 to July 17, 1983.
