These printing blocks show a variety of patterns frequently seen in Indian textiles. The wood is often sag (referred to as teak), a dense wood from a forest in Gujarat south of Ahmedabad. The pattern is carefully incised into the block with a bow drill and small chisels. -- Label copy for Courtyard, Bazaar, Temple: Traditions of Textile Expression in India, Bellevue Art Museum, June 12, 1982 to July 25, 1982.
