Neto is best known for his large-scale, biomorphic sculptures of stretched lycra, tulle, and nylon like Flying Gloup Nave (1999), which was exhibited at the Henry in 2001. Many of these sculptures fill galleries with translucent membranes that suggest both passage and containment. This drawing similarly plays with penetration and permeability as the distinct white zones breach the heavy ink wash ooze. The title lends a poetic charge to what can be seen as a primordial field. -- Label copy for 150 Works of Art, October 1, 2005 to February 26, 2006.
