Everything about William Eggleston's work has to do with color: it is intense, pure and super real. One of the first to take advantage of the new color photography technologies in the early 1970s, Eggleston heightened the color in his work until it flowed, almost garishly. His subject matter is straightforward-- not shocking, sensational, staged or manipulated-- and is taken in the places he knows best-- Memphis and northern Mississippi. -- Label copy for After Art: Rethinking 150 Years of Photography, December 4, 1994 to March 26, 1995.
